My grandpa came into town to help me move out and so I took him to the Hollywood Bowl overlook, which I’ve written about before.

I’m going to start taking more pictures of people in my travels. I think it’s really the people and the atmosphere (which includes the people) of the places I go that pulls me in, not just the amazing buildings and landscapes. Here are two of my favorite people pictures from my recent trip to Olvera Street in downtown LA.
Olvera Street is the oldest part of downtown LA and has been converted into a Mexican marketplace. We went on the weekend before Dia de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday meant for remembering loved ones who have passed away, which was the perfect time to go. People had their faces painted for the occasion, kids were performing traditional Mexican dances and much more.

The rooftop pool at The Standard downtown is a summertime funtime place for the hippest of L.A.’s young, but still under the radar crowd. The drinks aren’t cheap, but what is cheap in L.A. anymore? The atmosphere is a mix, not just hipsters, not just the cool kids. It’s a great way to waste away an afternoon (and $50). There are pool parties here throughout the summer, I just happened to be slow on the uptake and didn’t get in the know until the last weekend of summer.
