New lights on the Christian Science fountain.

Last week there was a horrible heat wave in Beantown - we’re talking 99 degrees and very humid. The Christian Science Center fountain was packed with people from before 9 a.m. to well after 6 p.m. It just reminds me of every fountain/water sculpture in Arizona, and I’m not a huge fan. Public fountains are not public pools people! But I guess I’m alone on this one, because look how crowded it is. Also, I saw a welcome sight - the ice cream truck parked next to the fountain.

On warm days the fountain in the Christian Science plaza becomes a small water park. It reminds me of every water feature in Arizona from April through October!

The Christian Science Center of Boston.

I don’t know about you, but growing up in Arizona, this is not what my libraries looked like. They looked like dusty old boxes-for-rooms with books on metal racks. No one paid attention to the inside of the libraries because they were about the books, not the beauty of the space. Clearly the Boston Public Library didn’t get that memo. This library is gorgeous. I would have an incredibly difficult time studying here. I’d just want to explore and touch and read and see. It’s built like a European palace. The insides are marble and frescoed with a beautiful open air courtyard in the middle of the building with a fountain. My childhood library didn’t have a fountain. Unfortunately my friends and I arrived 10 minutes before the library was about to close, but with any luck I’ll be back to Boston and I’ll get to spend more than a few minutes in this wonderful place.
