I guess I could pull myself away from shopping and eating to see the less easily accessible wonders of the world.

The last photo from my hike up the Gateway Loop.

Pictures from my hike up the Gateway Loop in Scottsdale, Arizona. It takes about an hour and a half to hike the loop but there are some epic views of the Sonoran Desert and Phoenix from this hike, if you’re willing to huff and puff to get there.

I hiked Fryman Canyon again and I learned that the trail is actually called the Betty B. Dearing trail. I think that is kind of a perfect name for a trail. It’s very non-threatening.

I went mid-afternoon on a Friday and the trail was very calm. Not too many people, mostly people walking their dogs or women hiking solo or in pairs.

Right now in the early summer, especially since June gloom has a heavy hold on the city, it was the perfect temperature to go for a hike. Sunny enough to warm the day, but enough of a cool, ocean breeze to cool you off before you get too hot.

The trail smelled like eucalyptus trees, which remind me of my childhood backyard. Every once in a while it smells like someone forgot to pick up after their dog. But keep on hiking and that smell is behind you.

The descent of the hike winds through a Studio City neighborhood, which I don’t mind because I love looking at the beautiful houses.

The trail is half paved, half dirt. The dirt part was a bit tricky for me, since I hurt my toe last weekend. But it turns out I could handle it!

Some pictures from my family’s hike up Fryman Canyon in Studio City. Fryman isn’t too difficult, it’s a bit steep one way, but if you’re worried you can make that your descent.

You can see some great city and valley views from the top, and it’s a really beautiful way to escape the city.

The best thing I saw on my hike was not nature, however. I saw a very skinny new mom pushing her child in a stroller up the steep incline while talking on the phone. And, she wasn’t even out of breath. One word, jealous.
