The shops in Quartzite, Arizona, one of the lovely stops between Los Angeles and Phoenix.

After hanging out on Olvera Street for a while, my visiting friend wanted to continue walking around. Anyone who knows LA knows it’s not a walking town. When the words “Let’s walk somewhere” are uttered in LA, the reaction you’ll get is, “What?!” We don’t walk a lot here in the City of Angels, unless you’re hiking or exercising. I’ve actually heard someone say, “The only people who walk in LA are bums,” (as if walking was a bad thing).
Side note: I’m surprised more people aren’t obese here. Thank god for the surplus of plastic surgeons, gyms and nutritionists in this city. Oh, and the obsession with being stick-skinny like Natalie Portman and Megan Fox.
When my friend said that four letter word, my other friends and I looked at each other with terror in our eyes. It was the fear that you’re letting your visiting friend down with your lack of original ideas. We decided to walk to a hipster restaurant Wurstküche, known for its sausages and apathetic customers, which happened to only be about a mile away. Quite a trek for LA.
On our way we bumped into a group of girls looking for Little Tokyo. Since we’re not from downtown we had no idea. (I thought the Asian culture was all about technology. Hello, where are your smartphones, ladies?) We kept walking, past downtown’s detention center , which is exactly what you want your friend to see in your city, and LA’s tiny subway system. Not 10 minutes into our walk, I look around and see that we’re in Little Tokyo (sorry girls!).
We walked around the main shopping area of Little Tokyo, which is indeed little. We walked into a few shops and discovered how much the Japanese enjoy beauty products including, eyelashes and facemasks. My favorite items were the sushi molds in the shapes of hearts and woodland creatures.
One shop had so many beautiful Japanese sushi dishes I almost convinced myself I needed one. Though, it’s not difficult for me to convince myself I need something.
If you’re downtown, it’s a fun place to stop by and spend a couple of hours, though by no means is it a destination.

These are my favorites from the clothing selection from Missoni for Target’s collection. Finally! I can buy Missoni without crying for my bank account. There’s everything from scarves to tights (both of which I love) to vases and outdoor furniture. The collection will be available from Sept. 13 to Oct. 22. If it lasts that long!
The full collection can be seen at Fashionista.com. That’s where I got these pictures.

I’m just going to take a quick break from traveling to gush over the new Missoni for Target collection, which you can get starting Sept. 13 through Oct. 22. It’s reasonably priced and the 400-piece collection offers everything from shoes to bikes!
These are my favorite home goods from the collection. How’s a girl to choose?
Check out the full collection at Fashionista.

Other Chicago photos that didn’t really have a place to go. They’re random, but I had to include them.

Some vintage typing tiles for sale at the Melrose Trading Post.

After my second trip to the Melrose Trading Post at Fairfax High School in West Hollywood, I decided it was time to blog about it. The trading post has anything you can think of, including old family photos, picture frames, vintage and new jewelry, furniture and old records. Plus, the tamales in the “food court” are delicious.
My favorite find was old Mahjong scoring tiles made into necklaces. Unfortunately, since I’m just an intern, it was something I’ll have to save up to buy. They weren’t too expensive, but sometimes a girl can’t have everything.
The trading post is open every Sunday, rain or shine.

Random street art in West Hollywood on Melrose. I thought it was interesting, since it didn’t involve bright colors like most street art. This could also have been put up by a store, too. I’m not sure.
I took this after shopping at the Melrose Trading Post at the Fairfax High School.

While strolling Newbury Street in Boston with my friend, we fell in love with this store. I would give my left arm (keep in mind I’m right-handed, but I’m a writer so that hand’s kind of important) to own something from Allsaints Spitalfields.
This UK brand isn’t exactly my style, it’s rather dark. Think leather and chains. But the beautiful lines, fabrics and combinations of styles used in this store had me thinking about giving my wardrobe a harder edge.
Unfortunately Allsaints is rather pricey, but one day I will shop there.
